
Callum Harvey is a cyber and disinformation policy researcher and practitioner. After serving in roles in and around the Australian Government, including work on cyber security and artificial intelligence regulation, he is currently undertaking a DPhil in Information, Communication and the Social Sciences at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. He also holds a MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the OII.
Callum is a Research Affiliate of the Digital State Forum, a collaborative research initiative on government AI policy and capability based at the OII and the Hertie School, and an Affiliate Member of the Centre for AI, Trust and Governance at the University of Sydney. He has presented research on digital platforms at the Hague Program on International Cyber Security’s 2022 and 2023 conferences at Leiden University, and has published in world-leading academic journals and outlets.
Before coming to Oxford, Callum served as an Assistant Manager in Digital & Cyber Policy at the Australian Department of Industry, Science and Resources, where he advised on data and cyber security measures in the Safe and Responsible AI policy agenda. He previously worked at CyberCX, Australia’s largest cyber security services provider, and in grassroots cyber capacity building in the non-profit sector.
After completing an Honours year examining the state-like nature of digital platforms at the University of Wollongong, he served as a Young Leader in Cyber Security researcher with the Harris Cyber Policy Initiative at the University of Chicago.
Beyond the Internet, Callum is a drummer, poet, and prolific tabletop RPG player.
